Cusco Highlands, from ridge to ruin

Cusco Highlands, from ridge to ruin

RAINBOW MOUNTAIN, CUSCO REGION, PERU

The sequence begins on the ascent, where a warning sign stands against the mineral slope of Rainbow Mountain. The trail opens into striated ridges and bright, wind-swept color under a low cloud ceiling. From there the journey turns to Machu Picchu, held in and out of cloud, its terraces and walls set against the steep green amphitheater. A grazing llama softens the site’s scale before the final frame closes in on the fitted Inca stonework. The postcard moves from exposed altitude to measured enclosure, carrying the same highland weather through each stop. It reads as a survey of Peru’s Cusco Region, where landscape and construction remain tightly joined.
